About Us
Deer Creek Center for Field Research and Education (DCC) is a joint enterprise of its founding members, the Siskiyou Field Institute (SFI) and Southern Oregon University Foundation (SOUF). The Siskiyou Field Institute is a non-profit, educational organization located in the Illinois Valley and Southern Oregon University is a regional state university with campuses in Ashland and Medford. Our mission is to provide educational opportunities and promote scientific research for students, researchers and the public through ownership, restoration and management of the DCC property and facilities. Building upon the unique characteristics of the region, DCC strives to become a nationally-recognized destination for field research and education that brings extraordinary educational, economic, and cultural value to Southern Oregon.
DCC is located on an 850-acre former ranch near Selma, OR in the heart of the ecologically diverse Klamath-Siskiyou bioregion. The main campus is set near the base of botanically rich Eight Dollar Mountain on the banks of Deer Creek, tributary to the wild and scenic Illinois River, and a short distance from the Kalmiopsis Wilderness. The spectacular natural setting and facilities support a dynamic learning environment, and the diversity of habitats within the DCC property, and on adjacent public and state lands, provide equally diverse opportunities for teaching and research.
To find DCC take Hwy 199 (Redwood Highway) south from Grants Pass or north from Cave Junction to the community of Selma (approx. 20 mi S. of Grants Pass). Turn west (right if coming from the north and left if coming from the south) onto Illinois River Road at the flashing light in Selma and proceed approximately 1.5 miles. Look for our large sign and driveway on the left side of the road.
